The Canary Islands received over a million foreign visitors from direct international flights through our airports during the month of January, almost 3% more than 2014.
The actual figure is 1,034,144 according to Aena, an increase of 2.98% than last year .
The figures by country breakdown into 283,644 from the United Kingdom, 11,264 more than 2014 and an increase of 4.13%. Germany is the next biggest market with 278,307 tourists, an increase of 3.68% more than 2014.
Swedish tourists were third place in arrivals although the figure of 83,996 is a drop of 5,153 tourists (5.78%) compared to 2014. Declines were also recorded in tourists from Scandinavia, passengers from Norway totalled 68,422 a drop of 9.35% and Finland 42,601 meant a decrease of 15.28% from last year. Denmark remained slightly positive with 47,985 tourists, which was 214 (0.45%) more than the same period in 2014.
The Russian market recorded the biggest decline in visitor arrivals for the Canary Islands, this year the islands received 4,783 tourists from Russia, compared to 9,508 in January 2014.
