It’s no secret that the weather this winter in Lanzarote hasn’t been brilliant. Apart from in November, we haven’t had much rain, but it has been generally cloudy and, by Lanzarote standards, cool. Talking to older Canarian friends, they all confirm it has been as cool as they remember it – on some days the temperature has stayed around 15 degrees. Without boring you with the details, this has been caused by an anomaly in the jet stream, which has resulted in reduced temperatures for the whole of southern Europe.
The good news is that things will return to normal, and the sun will gradually heat the land and buildings so we can enjoy our usual, much milder temperatures.
But in the meantime, here are some ideas for things to do in Lanzarote when the weather isn’t up to lying on the beach or sitting on a bar terrace watching the world go by:
Go for a walk!
All three resorts have fabulous promenades that run along the seafront that are flat and easy to negotiate, as well as plenty of places to stop for a tapa and a beer or glass of wine. Head inland, and you’ll find the island is full on fascinating tracks that wind around volcanoes, with stopping points at rural villages. Here’s more about walks in Lanzarote.
