Recently I stumbled upon "Shoot Lanzarote" and I was really impressed by all these photos of a different Lanzarote. I was so taken aback by this alternative view that I decided to get in touch with the mastermind behind it, Stewart Andrew.
Where are you from originally, Stewart?
I am originally from Manchester. I lived there until I was 18 years old when I joined the Royal Navy. Since then, I've lived in many places!
What brought you in Lanzarote then?
I first came to Lanzarote in the early 1980's with my parents. They bought a timeshare apartment here and we came on holiday regularly. In September 1995 I came on holiday to Lanzarote after having not been here for 5 years. It was then that I decided to make the move and by January 1996, I was back living here.
How did you come up with "Shoot Lanzarote"?
It was an overnight idea 19 years in the making!
Hahaha! Tell us more about it?
I've always been interested in the more “off the beaten track” aspects of the island, of which there are countless examples. Whether it be exploring old fincas, going for cliff top walks or just driving to somewhere you've never been to before to have a nosey. Even in an island as small as Lanzarote, there are still many places I haven't yet seen. There are many, many places you can find professional stock photographs of Lanzarote, but not many where you can find pictures taken by amateurs. Pictures of different things and not just the beaches and marinas.
So how does it work?
I set up Shoot Lanzarote on Facebook as a Community page because I want people to get involved. I want them to get the bug...to get out and about and find places which they already know are there (they've probably driven past them hundreds of times!) but they have never really paid any attention to. Facebook has a huge reach and it's the ideal way for me to get the word out about read more »
