The 2nd edition of the Muestra de Cine Europeo will take place in Lanzarote from today, Tuesday the 11th until Sunday the 16th of December.
The venue for this year is Arrecife’s Centro Cívico in the San Francisco Javier quarter. This event will be graced with the attendance of some renowned personalities of the silver screen like the director of the Segovia's Cinema Festival, Eliseo de Pablo, the producer from Santiago de Compostela Pela del Álamo, the seasoned director Basilio Martín Patino and the Portuguese actress Ana Morreira.
Before the inauguration of the Festival at the Cueva de los Verdes, there will be a "Pre-gala" at the Bodega Los Bermejos premises. The event takes place tonight, Tuesday the 11th at 20:00 hours. The poster of the event will be presented tonight, alongside the list of selected movies and the rest of cultural activities that will be part of the festival. The comedy The trip, by Michael Winterbottom, will also be shown. The movie tells the story of a food critic from the UK Observer that after the traumatic breakup with his partner, goes on a business trip and at the last minute he is joined by an extravagant travel companion.
The official inauguration will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, by showing the movie Tabú, from the Portuguese Miguel Gomes. The venue is the Cueva de los Verdes at 20:00 hours. The event will be attended by the main character played by Ana Morreira. Earlier that same day, at 12:30 hours, there will be a talk-discussion titled José Saramago y el cine ("José Samarago and the cinema") in his house in Tías.
The actual Centro Cívico in Arrecife will be the venue where the following movies will be shown Nostalgia de la Luz by Patricio Guzmán y Nacional VI by Pela del Álamo at 20:00 hours on Thursday & Friday, respectively.
On Saturday, at the same venue, there will be a double cinema session with Érase una vez Anatolia by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, at 17:00 hours and Libre te quiero de Basilio Martín Patino, at 20:30 hours. The later is a documentary filmed during the occupation of public spaces by the 15-M movement, and it's a collection of the reasonings, demands and lifestyle of the protesters in the squares.
Finally, bringing the festival to its closure , the movie El Molino y la Cruz by Lech Majewski will be shown on Sunday at the Teatro Insular in Arrecife at 20:00 hours followed by a concert by Javier Ruibal.
