The St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Lanzarote will start with a mass held in the church by the harbour of Puerto del Carmen.
Pancho Hernández., Mayor of Tías presented the programme for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations yesterday, together with Eileen Izquierdo Lawlor, the Honorary Consul of Ireland in Lanzarote and Amado Vizcaíno, Tourism Councillor for Tías. Puerto del Carmen is a magnet for our Irish visitors, Lanzarote attracts over 200,000 tourists from Ireland each year, with a high proportion of these staying within this holiday resort. Tías council invited residents and tourists to join in the celebrations and “be Irish for a day”. The Irish President Michael D. Higgins himself has recently been spotted enjoying a few days in Puerto del Carmen. Lanzarote was also named as the Best Winter Sun Destination 2016 by the Irish Travel Industry, for the 13th consecutive year.
