I’m a big fan of anything that seeks to make our use of energy more efficient. And who can deny that Lanzarote is perfectly placed to do so much more with solar energy?
The problem is, even with our sunshine record, solar just isn’t very effective, so I was intrigued to find out that local Kevin Wheatley has come up with a new type of solar panel that he claims is better than what’s currently available.
Kevin originally came to the island to own and run bars, but he sold his last bar in Puerto del Carmen 9 years ago, and has since invested his money and time in this project.
It has been an extremely long process for him, but he does now have his patents, and crucially, he hopes to set up his assembly and distribution centre here in Lanzarote, so we are talking about potential jobs for the island.

Crowdfunding
Kevin is looking to crowdfund this project to get the next part of the investment together – he needs the money to make the injection moulds and to get everything tested to EN standards. Crowdfunding is a way for private individuals or businesses to pledge amounts of cash to help get a project off the ground.
You can pledge as little as £1 – and every investor will have the chance to have a swimming pool system provided free of charge.
