The Fundación César Manrique (FCM) confirmed today that César Manrique’s house in Haría has been converted into a museum, which is due to open to the public from next month.

President, José Juan Ramírez and Director, Fernando Gómez Aguilera from the Fundación César Manrique announced the information during a press conference this morning. The house which was declared a place of cultural interest in 2003, will be known as the Casa Museo César Manrique en Haría (CMCMH).

The Director of the FCM emphasised that the museum has not been created, the 1100 m2 house is situated on a plot of 12,000 m2 and when the doors open visitors will be able to view the property as it was at the time of the artist's death.

Manrique designed the property specifically for him to live in, visitors will be able to visit his bedroom, guest bedroom, lounge, kitchen, four bathrooms and two patios. Around 1,500 objects are displayed throughout the property including 30 works of art, as well as his personal effects. Also within the grounds there is Manrique’s workshop and a pool.

The Fundación have been working on this project in recent years, it’s timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the inauguration of the house and to continue the conservation of César Manrique’s legacy.

Whilst the artist’s house in Haría might not have the wow factor of the underground volcanic bubbles of his previous home in Tahíche, it will be a place worthy of visiting to complete the life story of our famous artist. The Workshop of Dreams exhibition held at the Fundación in Tahíche was extremely popular and included a recreation of rooms from Manrique’s house in Haría – From August 2013, you will be able to actually walk through the interior of his private home.

Manrique’s house is situated on Calle Elvira Sánchez, you can walk or drive from the centre of Haría. From the Plaza de la Constitución, face the Ayuntamiento of Haría with Bar Neya behind you, just to the side of the library on the right of the council building, there is a road called Calle el Puente, this becomes Calle Elvira Sánchez, look for the distinctive metal palm tree gates to find the house on the right of the street.
