Turismo Lanzarote and British Airways came up with an original joint promotion to celebrate the airlines route between London Gatwick and Arrecife over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Two hundred and forty two people attended the event in Brighton last weekend, which gave them a taste of Lanzarote whilst suspended from one hundred metres high. The Sociedad de Promoción Exterior de Lanzarote (SPEL) for tourism promotion outside of Lanzarote organised the event with British Airways which was entitled BA Beachside. Members of the public were invited into a lounge area on the beach at Hove where they could relax with games and a DJ.
Visitors were invited to select a stick of rock, some of the candy included a special dinner invitation. Twenty two winners at a time were invited to take a seat on a special flight where the dining table was suspended at 100 metres over the beach. British Airways ambassadors then served a tasting platter of typical dishes from Lanzarote including our wrinkly potatoes with mojo, Canarian stew and cheeses.
As you might imagine, the promotion had a major impact on social networks as people shared their experience and photos using the hashtag #BABeachside on Twitter and Facebook.
Luis Arráez, on behalf of Tourism at the Cabildo highlighted the positive impact of this kind of promotional activity in mature markets like the UK and cities like London where British Airways is based. The route between London Gatwick and Lanzarote has been operational since 31st March 2013.
Héctor Fernández Manchado on behalf of SPEL explained that this event was part of the joint marketing campaign with British Airways to promote the flight connection between the UK and Lanzarote with two flights a week on Thursday and Sunday.
Other destinations such as Rome , Saint Lucia , Morocco , Saint Kitts and Mexico , also participated in the promotion with the British Company.
