As the title indicates, this painting exhibition is born out of a fascination with the volcanoes, their shape, their colouring, their textures.
Not in vain these volcanic landscapes are made out of actual sand and volcanic ash. Some of the landscapes are real - mainly from Lanzarote, the odd one from Fuerteventura - and some others are made up. All of them equally beautiful and haunting as the real volcanoes themselves.
Sabine is originally from Germany but has lived in the island for over 20 years. It takes Sabine between 20 and 30 hours to do a 50 x 50 cm painting and some of them are actually larger than that!
There is even more to this exhibition: there are also watercolours by her husband, black & white and coloured lithography's and collages with various themes: churches, chapels and other landmarks of our island, flowers, still life, art cards and more.
You can visit the exhibition at your leisure Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm. On Sunday's from 3pm to 8pm Sabine is there so you get a friendly and personalised tour with all the explanations about her & her husband's paintings and drawings, their techniques and much more. If these hours don't suit you, you can actually make an appointment with the artist. What a privilege!
I am so glad I decided to pop in and meet her. If you do the same, tell her we've sent you and her smile will even be broader, we assure you!
