The positive trend of visitors to Lanzarote and the Canary Islands has continued for the first month of 2014.
According to the passenger figures from Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (AENA) the seven islands received 1,004,200 foreign passengers which is a 14.12% increase compared to January 2013.
Ricardo Fernández de la Puente, the Deputy Minister of Tourism for the Canary Islands commented that all of the islands have experienced significant growth from 9% to 25% last month, compared to the previous year and hopes this good trend continues through the winter season.
Lanzarote’s airport recorded 157,313 foreign passengers which was 31,869 more than in January 2013, a positive increase of 25.4%. Overall passenger numbers for Lanzarote during last month was 439,379 which is 17.1% more than in 2013.
There was good news too for Lanzarote’s Centros de Arte, Cultura y Turismo (CACT) visitor centres, they received 46,987 more visitors during January 2014 than the year before, which is an increase of 30.80%. These visitors also spent more in the restaurants and gift shops which increased the revenue in these sectors by 24.15% and 36.37% respectively. This positive increase could be attributed to the increase in tourists, plus the fact that the weather was cooler and wetter than in recent years.
