The holiday resort of Playa Blanca remains the only tourist destination in Lanzarote without a blue flag beach award for 2014.
Puerto del Carmen tops the awards again for Lanzarote, holding on to their 4 blue flags for the beaches at Los Pocillos, Matagorda, Playa Chica and Playa Grande.
Yolanda García, the Councillor for the Environment, Beaches, Fishing, Housing & Heritage publically highlighted the list of all the beaches in Spain with a Bandera Azul (blue flag) for 2014, commenting “our municipality of Tías is the most recognised in all of the Canaries. Thus next to San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in Gran Canaria who also received 4 blue flags but not for all of their coastline, as we achieved in Tías and for the island of Lanzarote.”
The blue flag award distinguishes those beaches of excellence who can demonstrate good water quality, cleanliness, accessibility and lifeguard services amongst other criteria.
