The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés highlighted the importance of the plane crash simulation which took place in Lanzarote yesterday. Around 300 emergency personnel participated in the rescue of 74 passengers and 3 crew from the plane that was forced to ditch near Yaiza.
In order for the simulation to be as close to a real live situation as possible, the details of CANASAR 2014 were embargoed prior to the event which could take place at any time from the 26th to 28th of May. Residents had no clue as to what was happening at the time of the fake crash, which took place on montaña de La Cinta at 07:20am on Tuesday 27th May.
Details of the plane crash were first reported by Protección Civil de Yaiza, Lanzarote’s president Pedro San Ginés was informed of the situation at 7:45 when the Plan de Emergencias Insular (PEIN) was activated, which involves a crisis cabinet to be formed led by the president. The aim of PEIN is to collate comprehensive data regarding the incident, including the number of victims, human resources and equipment attending the scene, roads affected and damage caused. as well as establishing telephone helplines for relatives of the victims.
