The exhibition Taller de los sueños at the Fundación César Manrique in Tahíche was due to close on the 13th January, however the date has been extended until the 7th April 2013.
The Workshop of Dreams is an exhibition in memory of Manrique, a project created by Fernando Gómez Aguilera, director of the foundation.
We visited the exhibition on the 20 year anniversary of Manrique’s death, a poignant date, it was quite moving to witness a personal insight into his workshop at home. Manrique moved from Taro de Tahíche to live in Haría during 1988, there are collections of his photographs and personal belongings, journals, unfinished paintings and items from his studio. The rooms have been cleverly designed, they really do give the impression of being transported to his house with glimpses of palms planted in the garden, through the studio windows.
A video plays on the wall, this film shows Manrique at home with his dog, working on a special design for BMW. Just outside the entrance to the exhibition is the Seat car which was presented to the artist.
The exhibition is free to view although positioned inside the Fundación which does have an entry fee.
The Fundación César Manrique is situated on Calle Jorge Luis Borges, just off the roundabout in Tahíche heading towards San Bartolomé. Open from 09:00 to 18:00 November to June and an extra hour to 19:00 in the summer months July to October. Entrance: Adults €8 and children under 12 free.
