I had been thinking about it for a while and, finally, I decided to take the plunge: I was going to adopt a dog.
I got in touch with SARA, the well-known animal protection association of Lanzarote sending them a message via Facebook and Ana, one of SARA's spokespersons, responded promptly. She asked me a few questions: had I had dog before, what kind of dog was I after, had I seen any in particular on their website that I'd be interested in meeting. This was the part that I dreaded the most: choosing just one amongst so many.
I had visited the SARA's premises a few years ago, when a friend of mine adopted her dog. I went along a bit for moral support and a bit for curiosity to see what it was like in there. My heart was broken, so many animals in this animal limbo, waiting to be picked by someone willing to give them a home.
