The British DVLA have announced changes to driving licences for those who have the two part (Photo ID and paper counterpart) driving licences. They are scrapping the paper counterpart, which is the section which lists points and bans, and replacing it with an electronic system.
The reality here in Lanzarote is that the car hire companies don’t even know about this change, which takes place on 8th June, and historically, most haven’t even asked or known about the paper counterpart, because it’s peculiar to the UK.
However, this post is intended to let you know what the new process is, and our advice is to follow the steps in case you are asked by the car hire company, wherever you are holidaying abroad. There are two options:
