Playa Blanca Carnival Programme 2013

Manuel Díaz Medina won the carnival poster competition for this year’s carnival in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote which will be held 22nd to 24th February.

This poster is entitled “Travestichaplin”, Manuel’s creation dates back to the 1920’s depicting an image of a woman with a hint of Chaplin and the Charleston. The main carnival parade will take place on Saturday 23rd at 18:00 leaving from Playa Flamingo to the centre of the resort in Playa Blanca. The village of Las Breñas start the carnival celebrations earlier with events from the 8th to 15th February.

Friday 8th February

19:30 Children’s Carnival Fiesta with Animacíones Naylint at the C.S.C. Las Breñas

Wednesday 13th February

10:00 Carnival activities for children in all the municipality at the various cultural centres including Casona de Femés, C.S.C. Uga, Biblíoteca Yaiza, C.S.C. Las Breñas & Biblíoteca Playa Blanca

Friday 15th February

17:30 An afternoon of fun and games with fancy dress costumes where the children call at the houses in the village of Las Breñas looking for sweets, leaving from the C.S.C. Las Breñas

23:00 Traditional Carnival Dance in fancy dress with the Parranda Los Salineros de La Hoya in the C.S.C. Las Breñas

Monday 18th February

17:00 Carnival mask workshop for children in the Biblíoteca Yaiza

Thursday 21st February

17:00 Face painting for children with ideas for the carnival in the Biblíoteca Playa Blanca

Friday 22nd February

20:30 Gala Drag Queen & Verbena to start the carnival in the south of the island with Ballet Dance Pop, Melao Boricua from Tenerife and Grupo Bomba from Fuerteventura in the Plaza del Carmen, Playa Blanca

Saturday 23rd February

18:00 Gran Coso de Carnaval, the main carnival parade will depart from the area by Playa Flamingo along the Avenida de Canarias, Calle el Varadero & Avenida Papagayo until arriving at the Plaza del Carmen in the centre of Playa Blanca.

Followed by a verbena with entertainment from Melao Boricua from Tenerife.

Sunday 24th February

10:30 Children’s Carnival Fiesta with murgas infantiles, children’s characters and fancy dress in the Plaza del Carmen, Playa Blanca

13:30 Carnival Day with fun and music from a variety of performances including Melao Baracua & Grupo Bomba in the Plaza del Carmen, Playa Blanca
