The Island is coming to the island! No, I haven't lost it, keep reading and you'll understand. I won't bore you with unnecessary introductions. Our guest today has already seen to it that, the introduction won’t be boring you!
This is the 1st of a 6-part videos very pertinently titled "What's the story, Rory?".
He is one of the few singers I really have problems choosing one song I like... because I like most of them! From your usual cover versions, to changing the lyrics to known songs, to his own original material - you name it, he's done it. Another thing I like about Rory is that Lanzarote features heavily in the videos of his songs. See how many locations can you identify on his YouTube channel!
Well, I won't keep you waiting any longer. Let's hear it from the man himself:
Do you have a stage name?
Just "Rory". Because my name is "Rory Gallagher" I did not want to cause confusion with the Irish blues guitar legend, so I use "Rory and The Island".
The Island could be 2 musicians or it could be 20, it depends!
I see. Where are you from originally, Rory?
Donegal, in Ireland.
How long have you lived in Lanzarote?
5 years now.
What do you play and sing?
A mix of my own music and cover songs.
[He sings and plays the guitar, by the way. And the drums, let's not forget the drums!].
And who is your idol and / or inspiration?
John Lennon.
What do you like most about the island?
The nightlife!
Do you have any special projects coming up?
Opening my new bar on the 8th of March.
Congratulations! Where is it going to be?
It used to be called "Jimmys" , just beside the Craic n Ceol in Puerto del Carmen.

When and where do you have regular gigs?
It will be 7 nights a week now in my own venue "The Island", open on March 9th, 2013.

Which is your favourite place in Lanzarote?
Teguise on a Sunday afternoon or Famara beach.
