The motoring laws vary here in Spain from some other European countries, and we’ve had some questions recently about the things you must carry in your car in Spain at all times.
So here we go:
- You should have the car papers on board – both the Ficha Technica and Permiso de Circulacion
- You must have your insurance documents and also the receipt to show the most recent payment has been made
- You need a bulb kit, so that if a bulb blows you can replace it immediately
- You should have your driving licence with you, and some form of photo ID
- Obviously the car (if applicable) must have a current ITV with the sticker affixed to the windscreen
- You should have two warning triangles (one to place at the front and one at the back of the car) for breakdowns
- There should be two fluorescent jackets on board to wear if you breakdown
- If the driver wears glasses, there should be a spare pair available in case you break them
It’s also worth remembering that you cannot tow a car on Spanish roads. If you do break down on the road, you must call a “Grua” or two truck. Most insurance policies include covering the cost of towing your car home or to a garage.
Also, it’s common practice for Spanish Police to stop cars randomly to check documents – no offence needs to have been committed. As long as you have everything you should, you’ll be on your way within a few moments.
Have we missed anything?
