The prestigious wine guide, Guía Peñín awarded the sweet wine Canari from Bodegas El Grifo their highest accolade of exceptional in their guide for 2013.
Guía Peñín is the point of reference for the Spanish wine industry, they also mention another ten wines from Lanzarote which were certified as excellent in the latest edition.
This is great news after a hard year for the vines in Lanzarote which suffered a winter drought, severe attacks of mildew and various heat waves. Bodegas Stratvs received the most recognition from the guide with six wines listed within the ten most excellent in Lanzarote. We were also delighted to see recognition for Bodega Vulcano, this small family run bodega in Tías is one to watch out for in the future. Surprisingly Lanzarote also get a mention for two red wines! It wasn’t a surprise to see the Ariana from El Grifo listed as this is notably the best tinto from the island, the other was the red wine from Stratvs, both from the 2010 vintage.

We tasted the Canari during one of the wine tasting evenings at Cantina in Teguise, and was recommended the Ariana for our meal at Casa Roja in Puerto del Carmen.
