Barstro - January 2014

As we head into the last week of January, there’s still time to taste this month’s menu at Barstro in Lanzarote.

Our favourites from this menu was the grilled chorizo tapas with a twist, warm goat’s cheese with pumpkin seed, Serrano ham and palm honey for starters and calamari with lime, chili and coconut milk served with aromatic rice for the main course. Dessert had to be the naughty dark chocolate and marshmallow parfait! How about you?

If you’ve flown on easyJet this month and read the Traveller inflight magazine, you may have seen me featured in The Real Regulars section, talking about why I love to eat at Barstro.

We also had an opportunity in January to sample the wonderful surprise tapas menu which is now available for group bookings at Barstro. We joined the British Triathlon Paralympic Team as they took time out from a busy training schedule in Lanzarote to have a night out. Chef Paul and the Barstro team really pulled out all the stops, to deliver course after course of amazing food for these athletes.

The surprise tapas menu included lots of fresh, local ingredients. Starting with smoked salmon from Uga, we also enjoyed fresh goat’s cheese and Serrano ham, pinchos of swordfish, some fabulous chorizo, curried rice with octopus, mussels, chickpea & chicken, enormous platters of langostinos and grilled sardines, some delicacies such as razor clams and plates heaped with portions of duck & steak. Dessert was slices of chocolate flavoured gofio with raisins. I’m sure I haven’t given the dishes the justice they deserve in my description, you’ll just have to take my word for it, the food was excellent.
