2013 was an amazing year in terms of tourist numbers for both The Canary Islands as a whole, and Lanzarote in particular.
Here are some key points:
- Lanzarote achieved over 80% occupancy for the first time since 2002
- Overall we had a 9.8% increase in foreign tourists to the island versus 2012
- The biggest increase in occupancy was in Playa Blanca
- The British market remains the largest for the island
- Tourists from France grew by 145%
- Russia and Italy also showed significant gains
- Tourists from the mainland of Spain increased marginally, by 1%
- December was an incredible month with a 20% increase (165,000 people) in foreign tourists
- Overall, The Canaries had a record 10.63 million foreign visitors during the year
- Spain as a whole also enjoyed a record year with over 60 million foreign arrivals
