Pupils attending the CEIP María Auxiliadora in Montaña Blanca, Lanzarote have been moved to a mobile classroom whilst a demolition crew destroy their school.
The small, rural school will be replaced by a new centre, which has been designed by architect Enrique Spínola Cabrera. The Mayoress of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo demanded action from the Ministry of Education following constant complaints from parents and teachers regarding the poor state of the facilities at the school.
The existing 30 students are currently taking their classes in modular classrooms in a location close by.
After the demolition, the new school will be constructed which will includes two infants classrooms for first and second grade, separate toilets for the pupils and staff, a multipurpose room and director’s office. The project has a built area of 240m2 as well as a sheltered patio.
