The third edition of the annual International Festival Langaia will be held from the 9th to 15th December in Lanzarote.
Langaia has a varied programme of events related to the environment including music, cinema, walks, activities for children and learning workshops. The official launch was held in the Timple Museum in La Villa de Teguise and presented by Salvador Quesada from the festival organisation, Daniel Mesa from Toyota, Oswaldo Betancort the Mayor of Teguise, Pedro San Ginés the President of the Cabildo and Inés Rojas the Minister for Culture for the Canary Islands Government.
Quesada presented the programme of events for this year’s festival. There is something for everyone who is concerned about the environment despite the economic difficulties, the event is also showing a firm commitment towards clean energy with the threat of oil exploration off the coast of the islands. Toyota have provided a Toyota Auris Hybrid vehicle for the duration of the festival to demonstrate their pioneering and environmentally friendly technology. The Mayor of Teguise focussed on the importance of teaching environmental awareness to the new generations, for a sustainable future. Inés Rojas talked about the importance of investing in the environment and the importance of private sponsors such as Toyota, No to oil and Yes to renewables is the motto.
If saving the enironment is important to you, why not join in. This Sunday there is a walk from Teguise to Guatiza and a week on Saturday a team of volunteers will be cleaning the land around the Jable de Famara.
